StripeChoose a system, scope it, connect
01Documentation lookup and account operations need different access.
02Project, file and account scope matter as much as the tool list.
03A provider plugin may include skills that a bare MCP endpoint omits.
Start with one practical task
Name the exact action your client needs, such as reading library docs or inspecting a browser page. Start with one server and the smallest scope that supports the action. Confirm the tool list and run one representative request.
Start with the context you need
Context7 supplies development documentation, Supabase connects project data and tools, Playwright supports browser tasks, Figma supplies design context and supported canvas actions, and Stripe connects supported account operations. Each server has its own access model and client requirements.
| Server | Best starting task | Connection and authentication | Boundary to verify | Usage and maintenance checks |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Context7 | Resolve a library and look up version-relevant documentation | Choose the publisher’s hosted or local MCP route; check its current access requirements | Correct library identity, version and returned API context | Current authentication/rate limits and the version of any local package |
| Supabase MCP | Inspect the intended project or database schema | Hosted connection; use the client’s documented authentication flow | project_ref, read_only, feature groups and accessible projects | Current feature availability and the separate database/service plan |
| Playwright MCP | Inspect a page and verify one browser interaction | Package/runtime and browser setup follow the repository’s client instructions | Browser session, selected page and what the action actually changed | Installed package, browser prerequisites and whether CLI plus skills fits better |
| Figma MCP | Read one intended frame’s design context | Provider plugin where supported; remote and desktop setup have separate paths | File permission and the specific read or canvas action requested | Current tool/client availability; manual setup may omit bundled skills or rules |
| Stripe MCP | Inspect an authorized account object for a defined payment task | Follow current plugin, OAuth or Agent API key instructions | Intended account, test/live context and operation permissions | Current authentication policy and the separate Stripe product being used |
Keep the first connection narrow
Choose the intended project, file or account and the smallest useful tool set. Confirm authentication and server status, then make one harmless request. Expand access only when the next task actually requires it.
Compare MCP with the other available route
Some publishers also offer plugins, CLI tools or skills. A plugin may bundle context and workflow instructions that a manual MCP endpoint does not include. Check the publisher’s current recommended path and the client you use.
A few more details
Which MCP server should I add first?
Add the one that supplies a missing input or action for the current task. Use Context7 for library documentation, Supabase for scoped project tools, Playwright for browser interaction, Figma for design context or Stripe for an authorized payment workflow. Confirm its output before adding another connection.
Does adding an MCP server include its workflow instructions?
Not always. A publisher may package skills and rules in a plugin, while a manual endpoint exposes only the server connection. Compare the recommended route for the client you actually use.
