Stripe MCP: Connect a Sandbox and Check Permissions

Connect Stripe MCP to a sandbox, confirm which account and permissions your client received, and start with a read of test data.

How do you keep a Stripe MCP test inside the sandbox?

With an interactive client, use Stripe OAuth and select the sandbox during consent. The hosted endpoint is the same for the connection; the selected Stripe environment and permissions determine what the client can access.

  • Begin by reading one known test record. Match it against the same sandbox in Stripe Dashboard.
  • For an unattended client that cannot use OAuth, follow the agent API key instructions and grant only the permissions the workflow requires.

Choose plugin or manual MCP

Current Stripe docs recommend agent plugins that combine skills with MCP setup. Manual clients connect to mcp.stripe.com; exact client configuration should follow its own instructions.

Choose account, environment and access

OAuth supports interactive account access; Agent API keys serve independent clients. Live accounts and sandboxes have separate access settings. Current docs announce a November 30, 2026 key migration deadline, so old secret-key tutorials need review.

Define the business validation separately

Supported operations include Checkout Sessions, invoices and subscriptions. Still verify price IDs, lifecycle handling and application entitlements in the selected environment; MCP access alone does not establish those business outcomes.

A few more details

Should a public customer use my developer MCP connection?

The page covers an authorized developer or agent integration. Customer checkout requires the appropriate Stripe product and application authorization design.

Can I use an old full-access secret key indefinitely?

Do not assume so. Recheck Stripe’s current MCP authentication migration notice and prefer the documented OAuth or Agent-key path.
