Record, edit and export one short screen demo
Capture one window and open the recording in Studio. Trim the setup time, add a zoom on the important click and review the captions before exporting.
Save an editable .openscreen project before exporting the local MP4 or GIF. Keep the project when you expect to revise the demo.
What it’s useful for
OpenScreen covers the recording-to-file part of a demo: capture the screen, edit the timeline, then export. It does not host the finished video or provide a team comment thread. Decide where the file will be shared before replacing a link-based video workflow.
Inside the product
- Record a screen or window with camera and audio on desktop.
- Edit a timeline with zooms, trimming, cursor presentation and captions.
- Export a local H.264 MP4 or GIF; the file stays on disk for the user to share.
Good to know
- No hosted video links, cloud storage, team workspaces or video comments.
- Desktop application; no mobile capture or live streaming. Platform capture/audio permissions and prerequisites differ.
- Captions are burned into video; SRT and VTT export are not provided.
The maker’s build notes
The maintainer of the current community continuation says Claude Code implements changes from specifications that they review. That supports AI-assisted ongoing development; it does not mean the archived original was wholly AI-generated. The image comes from the current official repository.
A few more details
Will an export create a public share link?
No hosted sharing service is documented. The output is a local file; hosting, access rules and discussion need another service. Optional AI editing can also use separately connected providers.
