What should you try first in an existing repository?
Pick a small change with a clear acceptance check, such as validating one existing form field. Use the spec to describe the behavior, the plan to name the affected parts of the system, and the task list to decide what to verify before merging.
Use GitHub Spec Kit to break down an agreed feature. Try the resulting smallest task in Claude Code and review its diff against the written acceptance criteria.
- Choose the existing repository and commit or set aside unrelated changes before initializing tools.
- Review the generated files and keep any conventions the project already uses.
Choose an independent process
The current repository separates spec-driven development, bug fixing and idea assessment. They are independent entry points; SDD is core, while the others are bundled extensions.
Follow an artifact trail
The SDD example moves from principles and feature specification through plan, tasks, implementation and convergence. Use a bounded feature to decide whether written decisions and review gates repay the extra artifacts.
Check the agent integration
Invocation syntax depends on the agent integration. Current examples use hyphenated speckit commands, so older dotted-command tutorials should be rechecked rather than copied.
A few more details
Is Spec Kit a coding model?
No. It provides processes and reusable project artifacts around a coding agent.
Must every task run the full SDD sequence?
No. The current toolkit has independent process entry points; a small change may not justify full specification overhead.
