Playwright MCP with Claude Code for Browser Checks
Use browser exploration to understand the behavior, then keep repeatable tests in the project with explicit assertions. A generated test file and a passing runner result are different things.
On this page
Browser task → assertions → runner result
01MCP supports persistent interaction; a test suite needs its own runner.
02Known data and visible outcomes make failures easier to diagnose.
03Repair failures without weakening the product assertions.
Start with one practical task
Choose one navigation and one interaction with an expected visible result. Use the browser connection to inspect what happened and record a repeatable test when the behavior needs regression coverage.
Choose MCP or a test execution workflow
Playwright MCP exposes browser interaction through accessibility snapshots. Its official repository also discusses CLI + Skills for coding agents. MCP suits persistent interactive exploration; a checked-in test suite needs explicit assertions and a recorded runner result.
Plan the behavior before generating tests
Start with a controlled account and known data. Specify the action and expected visible result. Playwright's documented agents distinguish planning from generation, making the test plan a separate artifact that can be reviewed.
Execute and inspect failures
Run the generated tests in the intended environment and inspect failures before accepting a repair. A stable assertion should describe product behavior. Removing an assertion to obtain a green run does not establish that the requirement works.
A few more details
Does connecting MCP mean my app has been tested?
No. A connection provides capabilities. Evidence requires a specified scenario, observed assertions and an actual execution result tied to the tested version.
