How to Verify AI-Generated Citations
Check whether a paper exists, match its DOI and bibliographic details, and read the original before citing a claim from AI.

Check the reference and the claim
- Copy the title, author, publication year and DOI exactly as given. Look for the title in the publisher’s site or your library catalogue.
- Resolve the DOI and match the title, authors and journal. A link that opens can still point to a different paper.
- Read the section that should support the claim. Compare its methods, population and findings with the sentence you intend to write.
Work through a mismatched DOI
Suppose an AI answer cites a paper about sleep and memory, but the DOI resolves to an article on a different population. Mark the citation as unresolved, search the title and first author together, and cite a verified source only after reading the relevant passage.

Can a citation tool prove my sentence is supported?
Use the tool to find the paper or surrounding citation. Check the original passage to decide whether it supports your exact claim.
