A Custom Whisper-compatible endpoint is the local or self-hosted STT path; whether audio leaves the machine depends on the configured endpoint and network. Ollama is a local LLM provider for text polishing and other LLM work.

BYOK means you sign up directly with STT and LLM providers like Deepgram, OpenAI, or Groq and use your own API keys in OpenTypeless. This gives you full control over your costs and data. OpenTypeless never sees your API keys — they are stored locally on your machine in an encrypted configuration file.

Estimate provider cost from the audio duration sent through your STT route and the transcript tokens sent through your LLM route. Apply the current rates, minimum charges, regional rules, and billing terms published by each provider. Your actual total depends on usage and configuration, so verify it in the relevant provider dashboards.

Every user gets a small free cloud trial so they can test official voice and AI polish without adding API keys. The Pro plan ($4.99/month) includes 100,000 cloud words per month for voice recognition and AI rewriting, plus cloud backup and restore and priority support. BYOK usage remains unlimited on both plans.

Yes. You can upgrade to Pro or cancel your subscription at any time. If you cancel, you keep Pro features until the end of your billing period, then revert to the Free plan. All your settings, custom dictionary entries, and provider configurations are preserved regardless of your plan.

Network use depends on both configured routes. A cloud STT provider sends audio to its endpoint, while a cloud LLM provider sends transcript text for polishing. For local or self-hosted STT, configure a Custom Whisper-compatible endpoint. Ollama and LM Studio are local LLM options for text polishing, not speech recognition. Inspect both endpoint URLs and test the resulting network behavior for your configuration.

The best STT provider depends on your languages, audio conditions, latency needs, formatting expectations, and data policy. Record a representative sample, compare the transcripts, and consult the current documentation and billing terms for Deepgram, Groq Whisper, OpenAI Whisper, AssemblyAI, and any other candidate. You can switch providers without losing the rest of your settings.

Yes. You can speak in one language and have the AI polish step translate your text into another language. For example, speak in Chinese and get polished English output. Configure this by adding translation instructions to your custom polish prompt in the settings.

The desktop app is open source under the MIT License. When you bring your own credentials, any STT transcription charges and LLM polishing charges come from the providers you configure. Review each provider's current terms before choosing a route. Managed service options, when offered, are described separately from the MIT desktop app.

OpenTypeless runs on Windows 10 or later (64-bit), macOS 12 Monterey or later, and Linux (Ubuntu 20.04+, Fedora 36+, Arch Linux). The app is built with Tauri, which provides native performance on all three platforms. You can also build from source if your distribution is not officially supported.

Hosted Ask Anything usage can use cloud words because it may include both STT transcription and an LLM answer. BYOK and local provider paths depend on your own provider setup.
